Directus is different from WordPress or Ghost: it's a 'database-first' headless CMS. You already have a Postgres or MySQL database, and Directus puts a professional admin UI on top. For content teams a no-code interface, for developers a REST + GraphQL API to access the data.

Ideal for multi-channel content: you enter products or articles once, and consume them in your website (Next.js, Nuxt), mobile app, embedded widget or partner API. Directus is the single source of truth.

At Virtual Computing, Directus runs in a Node container with dedicated Postgres. We manage updates, backups and SSL. Combine with our other hosting (Next.js front-end on Vercel or with us) for a complete headless stack.

Frequently asked questions about Directus hosting

Strapi takes a schema-first approach: define types in Strapi, Strapi creates the DB. Directus is database-first: connect an existing DB, Directus adapts. For greenfield projects both are fine; for legacy DBs, Directus is clearly more suitable.

Yes. We host the Directus container and connect it to your existing Postgres (with us or with an external provider). Directus doesn't change DB structure unless you want it to — safe to put on top of a production DB.

Yes, that's a common setup. Next.js fetches via Directus' REST/GraphQL API, with ISR for SEO and performance. We have example code available for customers.

By default assets are stored in the Directus container (local storage). For larger volumes (>10GB) we attach S3-compatible storage (our MinIO or external AWS S3). Including image transforms (resize, webp, blur).

In our own Dutch data centres in Eindhoven and Den Bosch. Data never leaves the Netherlands — GDPR-compliant and outside US cloud jurisdiction (no CLOUD Act risk).

Every deployment gets daily off-site backups with 30-day retention. Restore yourself from the customer portal or open a ticket with our service desk.

By default you get a virtualcomputing.app subdomain with automatic Let's Encrypt SSL. Want to use your own domain (app.yourcompany.com)? Set it up in the portal — we'll show you the CNAME settings.

Cancel monthly, no penalties. Upon cancellation you get an export of your data or the Docker volume to import elsewhere. No vendor lock-in.

Updates, security patches and uptime monitoring are always included. Our Dutch service desk responds via email or phone (+31 85 013 4500) on business days 8-18.
