    Why backup and disaster recovery?

Data loss is not a matter of if, but when. 60% of businesses that suffer significant data loss close within 6 months. Ransomware attacks increase year on year, but even a simple human error or hardware failure can have devastating consequences. A good backup is your last line of defence. But a backup alone is not enough — you also need a plan to recover quickly. That is disaster recovery. Virtual Computing combines professional backups with a well-thought-out disaster recovery plan. So that during an incident, you're down for hours or even minutes rather than weeks. Also see our [cybersecurity](/en/cybersecurity) services for preventive protection.

    Why backup and disaster recovery?

    3-2-1 Backup

Three copies, two media, one off-site — the proven strategy against data loss.

    Microsoft 365 Backup

Independent backup of Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams.

    Disaster Recovery Plan

Documented recovery plan with agreed RPO and RTO.

    Regular Testing

Periodic testing of the recovery plan to ensure it works when needed.

    Twin Data Centres

Backups in our second data centre for physical separation.

    Our 3-2-1 backup strategy

We follow the proven 3-2-1 backup strategy: 3 copies — Your data always exists in at least three copies: the original data plus two backups. 2 different media — Backups are stored on different storage media to prevent single points of failure. 1 off-site — At least one backup is at a physically separate location. We use our second data centre for this. Additionally, we make separate backups of your [Microsoft 365](/en/office-365-zakelijk) environment. Microsoft guarantees platform availability, but not your data. Deleted emails, files or SharePoint sites are permanently gone after 93 days — unless you have an independent backup.

    Disaster recovery planning

A backup is worthless if you don't know how to recover. Our disaster recovery planning includes: RPO (Recovery Point Objective) — How much data can you afford to lose? We align backup frequency with your business-critical processes. RTO (Recovery Time Objective) — How quickly do you need to be operational? We guarantee recovery within the agreed time. Regular testing — We test the recovery plan periodically. Not when things go wrong, but proactively. So we know for certain it works. Your [online workspace](/en/online-werkplek) runs in our own data centres with redundant systems. In a disaster, we switch to the second data centre for minimal downtime.

    Veelgestelde vragen

What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

Backup is making copies of your data. Disaster recovery is the complete plan to get your business operational again after an incident — including priorities, procedures and timelines.

How often do you make backups?

Daily as standard, but for business-critical systems this can be more frequent — up to every hour. We align frequency with your RPO.

Doesn't Microsoft back up my 365 data?

No. Microsoft guarantees platform availability, not your data. Deleted items are permanently gone after 93 days.

How quickly can I recover after an incident?

Individual files within minutes. Complete environments within hours. The exact time depends on your agreed RTO.

    Do backups protect against ransomware?

Yes. Our backups are on an isolated location not accessible from your production environment. In case of ransomware, we restore your data without paying ransom.

    Where are backups stored?

In our own twin data centres in Eindhoven and Den Bosch. Physically in the Netherlands, ISO 27001 certified.

Do you test the recovery plan?

Yes, periodically. We don't wait until something goes wrong to find out if the plan works.

What does backup and disaster recovery cost?

Backup is included as standard with our online workspace and Microsoft 365 management. Contact us for a tailored quote. Call 085-013 4500.
