Gitea is an open-source Git server that looks like two peas in a pod compared to GitHub: repos, issues, pull requests, wiki, Actions (CI/CD). But on your own server, with unlimited users and private repos for a flat monthly price.

For SME software teams who otherwise pay €4-21/user/month for GitHub, Gitea is a no-brainer. You lose little functionality (the UI is almost identical) and gain full control over your source code — handy for companies with IP-sensitive software or compliance requirements.

We host Gitea in a container with Postgres for metadata and object storage for repo data. Includes LFS support for large files (3D models, video assets). Integrates with VS Code, Git CLI, and has an actions system (Gitea Actions) that runs GitHub Actions compatible workflows.

Yes, easily via a wizard in Gitea: paste GitHub URL + token, Gitea clones everything including issues, PRs and wiki. Duration: seconds per repo, even for large codebases.

For 80-90% of standard workflows yes. Some GitHub-specific actions (like 'actions/checkout@v4') work directly; more exotic actions may need small adjustments. We help with the first few.

Yes, Gitea supports user accounts and organisations just like GitHub. Give a freelancer access to 1 repo, with rights on that one. No extra licence costs.
